Haumoana Experiments First Place

On Wednesday, the 19 of June, Haumoana School participated in an experiment at Clive school, and did technology to earn points for their school.

The first technology idea was a balloon car racer. It was powered only by the balloon. And had to run a distance of 5 metres in the least amount of time. Haumoana School prepared themself for an unknown challenge and tried their best. The end result finished up being 1^st Haumoana School with a time of 5.43 sec to complete 5 metres. 2^nd Haumoana 7.64 sec to complete 5 metres and 3rd Port Ahuriri School with a time of 9.43 sec to complete five metres.

The next challenge was a stick builder challenge, the task was to get a marble as far away from the desk as possible self-holding and not stuck to the desk.

Clive school was a challenge for Haumoana and snuck through a gap to come first place. Haumoana still came up and took out the competition and came 2^nd and 3^rd.  The design was weighted down by sticks at the end. Haumoana was very pleased with their success so far, but had to still wait for the final challenge.
The final challenge was explained. The challenge was to get as many Ping-Pong balls as possible across from a 2 metre ditch without going in the ditch within 3 minutes. You could use 12 sheets of newspaper, 4 metres of string, four straws, and 1 metre of masking tape, 2 cotton buds and 2 paper clips.

After the lunch break they called everyone in, and everyone came popping in with an idea.

They got their materials and started on their design.

1 hour later still working. Finally it was getting to the end and people were getting stressed out. They came out of there working area and people saw all these wacky designs.

It was hard and challenging, some made it and some didn’t.
In the end of the result. The 2 Haumoana people came 4^th tied.
Was this enough to pull them through……
Haumoana B grabbed 1^st place with Haumoana A following close behind in 2^nd place.

They have made a great success for their school and themselves.
