The TECXSPERTS

Haumoana Experiments First Place

On Wednesday, the 19 of June, Haumoana School participated in an experiment at Clive school, and did technology to earn points for their school.

The first technology idea was a balloon car racer. It was powered only by the balloon. And had to run a distance of 5 metres in the least amount of time. Haumoana School prepared themself for an unknown challenge and tried their best. The end result finished up being 1st Haumoana School with a time of 5.43 sec to complete 5 metres. 2nd Haumoana 7.64 sec to complete 5 metres and 3rd Port Ahuriri School with a time of 9.43 sec to complete five metres.

The next challenge was a stick builder challenge, the task was to get a marble as far away from the desk as possible self-holding and not stuck to the desk.
Clive school was a challenge for Haumoana and snuck through a gap to come first place. Haumoana still came up and took out the competition and came 2nd and 3rd.  The design was weighted down by sticks at the end. Haumoana was very pleased with their success so far, but had to still wait for the final challenge.
The final challenge was explained. The challenge was to get as many Ping-Pong balls as possible across from a 2 metre ditch without going in the ditch within 3 minutes. You could use 12 sheets of newspaper, 4 metres of string, four straws, and 1 metre of masking tape, 2 cotton buds and 2 paper clips.
After the lunch break they called everyone in, and everyone came popping in with an idea.
They got their materials and started on their design.
1 hour later still working. Finally it was getting to the end and people were getting stressed out. They came out of there working area and people saw all these wacky designs.
It was hard and challenging, some made it and some didn’t.
In the end of the result. The 2 Haumoana people came 4th tied.
Was this enough to pull them through……
Haumoana B grabbed 1st place with Haumoana A following close behind in 2nd place.

They have made a great success for their school and themselves.

BACK TO WINNING WAYS

BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Last Saturday the Haumoana Hurricanes played the Havelock Phoenix Flyers at Windsor Park. In the previous rounds before this match the Hurricanes lost to a different Havelock team the Blast Stars, then beat Marist, drew with Central Hawk’s Bay and won there pool in a tournament on Queen’s Birthday weekend.

They didn’t have training on Wednesday because it was raining. The whistle blew and Havelock gave the ball straight to Haumoana.  They took their chances and scored. It didn’t stop there. At half time Haumoana were winning four nil.

The second half began and it looked like a girl on the other team was going to score but James tripped her up. Luckily the ref didn’t give a penalty. She had two other chances but she got tripped up again and again.

Haumoana scored four more goals in the second half to win eight nil. On one side the red and black were celebrating. On the other side it was a different story. The player of the day was Wesley. Haumoana were a lot more determined to win.

NYLD

What a fanatstic experience for our young leaders!

A report from the children will follow. . .
They remained seated during lunch as well!

A spot of exercise before the journey home!

CYCLOCROSS Round 1

A perfect Havelock winter day was great for the children competing in the first round of the HB Cyclocross series. Tackling the skate board bowl and the slippery graas, it was a challenge for some to stay up right.

Barney dominated the Kids A grade finishing a comfortable 1st and Lily S-E from Room 5 was the first girl home.

Round 2 is at Blackbarn on the 30th June.

Technology Challenge Homework!

Team BJR for next weeks Technology Challenge were making sure they have a head start on the opposition with a weekend training session!  Good luck for Wednesday guys!

Orienteering Relays

On Sunday, yesterday, in Te Awanga, a spectacular event occurred.
The grounds for the Orienteering champs were kindly offered by the Nilson family. Without them not much could have happened!
The Patient!

The two girl teams, consisting of Frances, Chloe and Ana + Tessa, Phoebe and Lily, unfortunately miss-punched, when you punch the wrong point or missed a punch. Unluckily the misfortune did not end there for Haumoana School!
One of the boy’s teams, Wesley, Noah and Cameron missed a punch on their course luckily, though; there was still a podium finish for Haumoana School!

Primary Boy’s Champs: 1st, Haumoana, Oscar, Will and George, 2nd Haumoana, Lockie, Jack and Barney, and Arthur Miller came 3rd.
The Podium!
Unfortunately, in the girls championships both girl teams got MP’s (miss punches NOT members of parliament!!) so were technically disqualified from the championship, leaving Arthur Miller with places 1st and 2nd! , The others missed punch leaving the 3rd place open! Also Arthur Miller and Haumoana School were the only ones that participated in their grade.
The Peformers!

There was also spectacular results from the intermediate grade, with HNI, Havelock North Intermediate) dominating the podium! Half of them are X-Haumoana School students! So a Most amazing finish for HNI and Haumoana School!
Those are the results for the Orienteering Team Relay Championships!
