Notice #3

UPDATE – 4st November
This newsletter also includes ‘optimist yachting’ permission slip
Dear parents/caregivers

Room 6 children will be attending camp at the Camp Kaitawa near Lake Waikaremoana this term.  All children are expected to participate in the 4 days and 3 nights away from home.

There will be a camp meeting on Wednesday 13th November at 5.30pm in Room 6.

PURPOSE OF THE CAMP

This is an opportunity for the children to:

- think and work interdependently

                                                       - take responsible risks and

                                                       - develop leadership, initiative and good decision-making skills

NUMBERS ATTENDING CAMP

Room 6 will have 28 children attending camp.

DAYS & DATES

Camp Dates are Tuesday 3rd December to Friday 6th December 2013.  We will leave from school on Tuesday at 9.00am travelling by private cars and hire van to Camp Kaitawa.  We will return from camp on Friday to be back at school by 3.00 pm.  We ask you to pick children up from school, as they will have their packs and may be tired.

PARENTAL CONSENT & HEALTH PROFILE

Could this please be filled in and returned as soon as possible to enable us to collate information for the benefit of your child.

COST OF CAMP

The cost for camp is $150 pp.  The cost includes food, drink, camp fee, camp personnel and activities.  Payment of this fee can be returned to the office by Friday 22nd November .  It is hoped no child be denied this experience because of cost.   This fee also includes Optimist Yachting which we will be participating in on the following Monday.

SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN

An experienced group of parents will be on the campsite.  Your child will be supervised 24 hours each day.  If there are special problems such as allergies, diet, medicine, let the teacher know on the attached form.  We shall endeavour to treat the matter as you would at home with the strictest confidence.  In the event of an emergency, parents will be contacted as soon as possible.

TRANSPORT

Children will be travelling by private and/or hire vehicles.

PARENT HELP

I was inundated with offers of help from parents earlier in the year.  We had to use a ‘draw system’ to choose from the many applicants.  The selected parents will transport, assist with day to day running of the camp and participate in all activities.  Thank you all for your offers of support.

I still require help and transport for the Optimist Yachting trip on the Monday following camp.

 CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT LIST FOR CHILDREN

Important!  Camp Kaitawa is 610m above sea level and subject to changeable weather conditions

This is on a separate sheet to refer to before going on Camp.  Clothing should be warm and serviceable, not your best clothing.  ALL clothing should be named.  (This is very important).  I have encouraged the children to take some responsibility for organising their own gear by checking items off the list as they are packed.

 FOOD
Each child is required to bring baking or fruit to be shared with others for morning, afternoon teas and supper.

A bulk donation of fresh fruit would also be welcomed – see me if you can help out.

Children will need to provide their own morning tea, lunch and a drink for the first day on camp as well as ingredients for their ‘cook up’.  All other meals, snacks, drinks will be provided.

We hope this experience will be of great benefit to your child and will lay the foundations for a greater appreciation of outdoor living.  Please reply with the necessary forms as soon as possible.  Do not dispose of the Equipment List until your child has arrived fully laden at school on the day of his/her camp!  Thanks for your support.
