IRONKIDS #3
On
Sunday the 11th of March was the third Iron Kids Triathlon. It was a
great day for a triathlon, sunny, no wind and warm. There were 7 children
from Haumoana School – Frances, Wesley, Noah, George, Will, Oscar and
Katelyn.
It started off with a swim – four 25 metre lengths for the 8 –
10 year olds. We started the swim at different times so it was hard to
tell who was in the lead but all the Haumoana kids had a great swim. Next
we ran to our bikes in the Ocean Spa car park. There was a clutter of
bikes. This is our first transition. It is hard to find your bike.
People frantically putting their gear on; shoes, helmet, and shirt. Then
we start our 2km bike ride on the cycle path. After biking up and back
you are back at transition 2 – put your bike away and start the 1km run – up to
the road and back. Save a sprint for the end and hear all the people
cheer your name. Phew, finished.
In the boys 8 – 10 year old race
Wesley won in a time of 11 minutes 30 seconds. Will came 3rd with a time
of 12 minutes and 2 seconds. Noah was 5th in a time of 12 minutes 33 seconds
and George was 7th in a time of 13 minutes and 27 seconds. Oscar was 17th
– his time was 15 minutes and 8 seconds. In the girls 8 – 10 year olds
Frances came in 2nd in a time of 14 minutes and 30 seconds and Katelyn was 3rd
in a time of 15 minutes 18 seconds. There were 76 children in the 8 – 10 year
old group.

U14 surf life saving championships
It was the
day I had been waiting for, I was in the
sprint final for the U14 surf lifesaving championships. My family and I drove
to the Mount the next morning. I was very nervous, when we got to the team tent
I put my things down on the sand and walked off to the marshalling tent, I sat
down and then the marshals told us what lane we were in “Wesley Akeripa will be
in lane 4.
I walked to the arena and set up
myself up flattening the sand out, “competitor’s ready, set bang the starter
gun went I was off sprinting as hard as I could down the sand beach, I could
hear my team cheering for me I sprinted harder and harder, I crossed the finish
line whooo! I had victory, the marshals walked by and handed out the place
numbers the lady came to me and held up number 1. When I walked out of the
arena my mum gave a big hug “well done she said” that was a victorious weekend
I said to myself.

Interschool Cricket
On Wednesday the 27th of February
Haumoana School had two
teams play in the interschool cricket competition.
There were a total of 12 teams from different
school playing on
6 pitches at Farndon Park, Clive.
It went for a number of hours and everyone
was tired at the
end due to the hot weather.
Our school teams had a very good day as they
both won all of
their games.
Thank you parents for transporting us there
and back.
